Almost 40 years ago, we built a house in Rotorua entirely from Cupressus lusitanica timber—no chemical treatments, just pure, natural wood.

  • Species: Cupressus lusitanica (grown in Tairua Forest)
  • Treatment: None
  • Cladding: 200x25mm rough-sawn vertical boards, with 75mm battens
  • Frames, Doors, Windows liners, Beams: All clear grades
  • Finishes: Oils and polyurethane inside; painted doors and facias outside

After 38 years?

  • Inside: No degradation at all.
  • Outside: The painted elements have aged well, and most of the cladding is still in excellent condition.
