Almost 40 years ago, we built a house in Rotorua entirely from Cupressus lusitanica timber—no chemical treatments, just pure, natural wood.
- Species: Cupressus lusitanica (grown in Tairua Forest)
- Treatment: None
- Cladding: 200x25mm rough-sawn vertical boards, with 75mm battens
- Frames, Doors, Windows liners, Beams: All clear grades
- Finishes: Oils and polyurethane inside; painted doors and facias outside
After 38 years?
- Inside: No degradation at all.
- Outside: The painted elements have aged well, and most of the cladding is still in excellent condition.
